‘Heroes & Cool Kids Program’ Comes to RAS



A student leadership team from Glen Ridge High School visited all Ridgewood Avenue School fifth graders Jan. 28 to emphasize the importance of sportsmanship versus bullying.

The team divided into groups, and each group visited a fifth grade class to discuss the characteristics of a bully, identifying bully behavior, myths and facts about bullying and definitions of bullying versus sportsmanship. A particular emphasis was placed on Internet bullying. Their message to each class was strong and simple. They shared personal experiences and came up with problem-solving scenarios.

The “Heroes and Cool Kids Program” began operating during the 1998-99 school year as a not-for-profit organization based in New Jersey. The program utilizes the services of current and former professional athletes whose personal life experiences enable them to train high school student leaders. Read the rest of the article
